Automatic Diameter Recovery (ADR) Freud's line of completely new planer heads feature a patent pending innovation, Automatic Diameter Recovery (ADR). ADR allows knives to be maintained at a constant diameter even after several sharpenings. The Automatic Diameter Recovery (ADR) utilizes an exclusive wedge or "gib" that regulates the position of the knives based on their resharpened edge life. As the knife becomes thinner from being sharpened the wedge moves in and repositions the knife back to the zero position, so there's no chance for inaccuracies.
