Vortex Tool Company Inc. recently introduced a Shaker style insert cutter that can be used in combination with other standard tooling to produce MDF Shaker style doors. The insert tool is designed with shears to provide a smooth bottom cut and uses standard and relatively inexpensive (four sided) ICK style inserts. The insert cutter is first used to hog a majority of the material out of the panel area while producing a clean bottom surface. Then progressively smaller diameter straight tools "clean up" the inside corners. Decorative v-groove notches and an outside detail can be added to complete the door. Many of these additional tools may already be in use by the customer.
